Justice Department Announces Charges Involving 63 People in Election-Related Cases

The department says the cases cover illegal voting, fraudulent registration and false citizenship claims in districts across the country.

What happened

On Monday, November 2, 2026, federal prosecutors unveiled cases against 63 individuals, four of them described as illegal aliens, over unlawful ballots, fraudulent voter registration and related election crimes around the nation [1]. According to the department, the alleged conduct includes voting by aliens in federal elections, false claims of U.S. citizenship made in order to register or cast a ballot, and filing a fraudulent registration application in another state [1].

Cases were listed by federal district, among them the Northern District of Georgia, the Southern District of Texas, the District of Maryland, the Eastern District of North Carolina and the Middle District of North Carolina [1]. Many of those charged are described in the release as lawful permanent residents rather than citizens [1].

How it affects Americans

The department ties the cases to public trust in elections, saying it will keep pursuing voter fraud "to restore confidence in our electoral system" [1]. Our read: the timing, one day before the midterm vote, puts enforcement of eligibility rules in front of voters. One defendant is alleged to have voted in a 2026 primary [1]. Each person charged is accused, not convicted, and the release uses the word "allegedly" in describing much of the conduct [1].

The Veil Press view

Attorney General Todd Blanche said, "Today's announcement marks the largest surge of voter-fraud arrests since President Trump returned to office" [1]. He added that "These foreign nationals allegedly took advantage of the trust of the American people and flouted the laws that govern our nation's elections" [1]. Our read: the aggregate counts are the department's own and will be tested case by case in court. The release frames the effort as continuing investigation and prosecution [1].
